In the South West Region we have thirty four groups which cater for 1,400 riders and 140 drivers. Their ages range from three to over seventy. We cover a large rural area which gives riders and drivers the chance to get out into the countryside to areas such as Exmoor, the Quantock Hills, Dartmoor and Cranborne Chase to name but a few. This is especially beneficial to those from the urban areas. Many groups ride all the year round. But groups without a covered riding school often have to stop during the winter months, when it is too cold and wet for sessions to continue. We have riders and drivers with physical and learning disabilities. Riding enables them to learn through the horse which gives them a considerable amount of enjoyment as well as achievement. This in turn benefits their general health and well being. Throughout the year we hold various extra activities which include Regional and County Dressage Competitions, Fundays, County Shows, Driving Events and Picnics. National, Regional, County and Group Holidays are held in the Region. Fundraising is essential as funds held by the Region and Counties enable us to support the groups with advice and sometimes the loan of special equipment. Monies raised also enable us to carry out training of our Instructors, Physiotherapists and Helpers. This is essential to maintain the high standards that we are proud of. Without our volunteer helpers none of our riding and driving could take place. We rely on their energy and enthusiasm to make it all possible. If you would like to have more information about our groups and would like to become a rider/driver, volunteer helper or help with fund raising please contact us. |
